It’s already the penultimate day of this year’s Malta Festival! Saturday will be all about theatre and music. The program includes a new, moving performance by Krzysztof Warlikowski and a concert by the modern swing project, Parov Stelar.

But let’s start with an important meeting. At 2 PM in the Festival Club, historian and art curator, former director of the Warsaw Zachęta Gallery, Anda Rottenberg, will lead a panel titled “Cuisine as a Cultural Phenomenon.” Rottenberg, along with invited guests Grażyna Kulczyk, Linh Nguyen, Marina Naprushkina, Ahlam Shibli, and Ifi Ude, will explore culinary topics from an anthropological perspective.

An hour later, the first of three performances of the climate opera Sun & Sea, created by Lina Lapelyte, Vaiva Grainyte, and Rugile Barzdziukaite, will take place. The world premiere happened at the 58th Venice Biennale. Riding the wave of success, it toured globally, captivating audiences in New York, Paris, Lisbon, London, and Singapore. Now it arrives in Poznań. Spectators will be able to listen to a mosaic of stories, inner monologues, dreams, and reflections, sung solo and in chorus by beachgoers. Additional performances are at 4 PM and 5 PM.

The program also includes Krzysztof Warlikowski’s latest play, produced at Nowy Teatr, returning to Poland after a European tour. At 5 PM in Sala Ziemi, you can see Elizabeth Costello. Seven Lectures and Five Fables with Morals—a play based on the works of J.M. Coetzee, the South African writer, Nobel laureate, and two-time Booker Prize winner. As Coetzee himself says, Costello is his alter ego, intruding not only into his imagination and writing plans but also voicing opinions on philosophical, ecological, social, and existential issues. She speaks out and appeals to consciences about the fate of animals, social inequalities, and the exclusion of the elderly or disabled.

As mentioned earlier, Saturday will belong to theatre, but also to music. Most of the action will take place on the open-air stage by Lake Malta. At 5 PM, DJ Jacek Sienkiewicz, known from the popular band Kwiat Jabłoni, will perform, marking the beginning of his DJ and producer career. At 6:30 PM, indie-folk duo Hollow Clowes from the antipodes will take the stage. At 8 PM, L.U.C. and his Rebel Babel Film Orchestra, together with guests Kayah and Kwiat Jabłoni, will perform music from the film The Peasants, blending tradition—through instruments like the Płock fiddle and hurdy-gurdy—with modernity. The evening at Lake Malta will conclude with a performance by Austrian DJ, producer, and master of electronic swing and pop, Marcus Füreder, known as Parov Stelar, who will appear on stage with a live band. His concert is at 10 PM.

At the same time, a silent disco will take place in the Festival Club, offering the perfect opportunity to dance out all the emotions accumulated during the day. And there is no shortage of emotions at Malta Festival!
