We are already almost halfway through this year’s Malta Festival! After dozens of fascinating events, it’s time for more artistic discoveries and marvels.

During the day, it’s definitely worth taking a walk around the center of Poznań. You’ll once again encounter the Colorful People—actors resembling living statues, painted in shimmering colors, from royal blue to apple green. European brass bands, playing wind instruments, will march through the streets with flair. Among them, you’ll hear Britain’s Back Chat Brass, Italy’s Bandakadabra, and Poland’s Brassfederacja playing tunes for passersby to dance to.

Malta will start the day again with hatha yoga and afro dance sessions. Another staple of the program is the screening of “The Domino Effect” at Kino Muza, along with workshops in the Green Energy Zone—this time focused on DIY cosmetics. At noon, in the Polish Dance Theatre, actress and singer Maria Janczewska, who has battled endometriosis for years, and Francesca Russo Ermolli—an outstanding Italian singer and vocal teacher—will lead a vocal release workshop. The topic of endometriosis will also be addressed in a discussion panel featuring Maria Janczewska, Patricia Kazadi, Lucyna Jaworska-Wojtas, and Daniel Kurczyński. The conversation, starting at 5 PM in the Atrium of the University of the Arts in Poznań, will be moderated by journalist Magda Łucyan.

At 5 PM in the Festival Club, you won’t want to miss the conversation between Michał Nogaś and British author Natasha Brown. Her debut novel “Assembly” was published three years ago, has since been translated into nearly twenty languages, and is a powerful voice in the discussion on Britain’s colonial legacy.

The fourth day of Malta boasts the richest theatrical lineup so far. Three plays will be staged as part of the festival. At 6 PM and 8 PM in the Polish Theatre in Poznań, there will be a performance of Lover’s Complaint, a Shakespearean sonnet in a surprising choral interpretation directed by Mira Mańka—featuring a choir composed of both Deaf and hearing individuals. In the Polish Dance Theatre, viewers can witness an extraordinary performance directed by Iwona Pasińska, exploring the themes of passing and departure. Also that evening, at Scena na Piętrze, Maria Seweryn will perform her first monodrama about inner strength and determination. The play At First Glance is directed by Adam Sajnuk.

Although Tuesday is traditionally not a dance-filled day, Malta will feature a solid dance party. London-based DJ and BBC radio presenter Jamz Supernova will be responsible for it. Known for her eclectic, genre-defying selections, Jamz is sure to bring an unforgettable party.

Detailed information about all events can be found in the “Program” section and on the official Malta Festival 2024 app, available for iOS and Android devices.
