DAY NINE: ONE LAST DANCE FOR LOVE!

It’s the final day of the 35th anniversary edition of Malta Festival! On the program: two original takes on the work of Agnieszka Holland, an unusual version on the national epic, a classic satire in new attire, and a final silent disco lasting until dawn! One last time: join us and let’s dance For Love!
Behind us is the second festival Friday and the eighth day of the festival: the world premiere of “The Monster’s Voice” and a grand, star-studded concert celebrating six months of Poland’s Presidency of the European Union. What did these events look like? Check out the latest episode of our festival chronicle!
At 9:00 AM on the terrace of the Festival Club, a yoga session with Twin Studio. A perfect opportunity to stretch out and prepare your body for a full day of activities!
At 12:00 PM in the Festival Club, the panel “In Our Own Voice – on Building Female Independence Across Generations,” organized by Local Girls Movement. Three women, three generations, and an honest conversation about what independence means today versus what it used to mean. No pathos, no sugarcoating – just real talk about life.
Also at noon at the Polish Theatre, “The New Pan Tadeusz, But Make It Rap.” A concert-musical performance that reinterprets the classic text by Poland’s national poet, shifting the setting from a Lithuanian manor house to a Polish housing block, and placing its traditional 13-syllable verse into a hip-hop rhythm. This bold vision comes from director Kamil Białaszek.
At 1:00 PM, your last chance to take part in the screen printing workshops at the Festival Club. One final opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake from Malta!
From the 1:00 PM, Bandakadabra – the beloved Italian brass band known for its truly hypnotic rhythms – will be charming you on the city streets.
At 5:00 PM in the Grand Hall of the Zamek Culture Centre, the final theatrical evening begins: the Poznań staging of “A Lonely Woman,” directed by Anna Smolar. For the first time ever, the rapper, freestyler, and performer Ryfa Ri will appear on stage. This is a contemporary response to Agnieszka Holland’s 1981 film, expressed through bodies and microphones, asking questions about the nature of loneliness and exclusion. Right after the performance, at 7:30 PM – also in the Grand Hall – there will be a special conversation summarizing the festival projects revolving around the work of the Oscar-nominated director. Participants include Agnieszka Holland, Agnieszka Smoczyńska, and Anna Smolar. The discussion will be moderated by Michał Merczyński.
At 5:30 PM in the Polish Theatre, the third Malta Festival performance of “Wiera Gran” – a deeply moving story about the dramatic fate of one of the greatest stars of the interwar period.
At 8:00 PM in Aula Artis, the second showing of the opera “The Monster’s Voice,” inspired by the film “Europa Europa” and the life of Sally Perel. Music by Aleksander Nowak, libretto by Robert Bolesto, directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska. An opera that hurts and soothes, clashes memory with reality, and raises questions that cannot be ignored.
Also at 8:00 PM, the Polish Theatre invites you to “Pygmalion,” directed by Mikita Ilyintsyk. A classic drama transformed into a dystopian tale about migration, language, trauma, and the attempt to forge a new identity.
At 9:00 PM in Quadro Passage – the final screening in the “Women’s Cinema” series. On screen: “Salt Lake” by Katarzyna Rosłaniec, about a woman who was faithful to her husband her whole life – until she decided to be faithful to herself. After the film, a conversation with the creators: director Katarzyna Rosłaniec, actress Katarzyna Butowtt, and psychologist and sexologist Dr. Katarzyna Grunt-Mejer.
And for the finale – we dance! At 10:00 PM, the Silent Disco kicks off, as Malta joins forces with the BitterSweet Festival, whose first edition will take place in Poznań this August. Hits in your headphones, pure joy in your hearts and minds.
Thank you for being with us throughout these past days – in the mornings, at premieres, in the sun, in the rain, in wild dance and contemplative silence. As of today, Malta Festival 2025 becomes part of history – and we say:
See you next year! To Love!
