DAY SIX: A SYMPHONY OF JUMP ROPES AND A ALL THAT JAZZ

25/06/2025

Parini Secondo is jumping into Malta! The group will debut at the festival with not one, but two impressive open-air dance performances. Meanwhile, the Malta concert stage will close with a performance by the highly acclaimed jazz ensemble BADBADNOTGOOD. What else can you expect from the festival’s sixth day? Read on for the details.

The Wednesday fair of wonders is behind us! Róisín Murphy mesmerized crowds at Hall 6 of the Poznań International Fair with her performance. We also saw the first showings of “Querelle” and “There Is Only One”, as well as an incredibly engaging meeting with author Claudia Durastanti. Take a look at how Day Five of the festival unfolded!

And what about today? Starting at 9:00 AM at the Ballet School on Gołębia Street, more sessions will be held as part of the “Ballet Mornings” series. This time, Professor Andrzej Adamczek will guide participants through the intricacies of contemporary dance.

The morning at the Festival Club will begin at 10:00 AM with the workshop “For Love! For Yourself. Slavic Gymnastics” led by Małgorzata Daniło Gorlewicz, focusing on pelvic floor muscles and conscious connection with the body.

From 1:00 PM, the Festival Club will continue to host the manual screen printing workshop “Create, Renew, SCREEN PRINT!”.

Later in the day, a new music-choreography performance by Parini Secondo and Bienoise will premiere on Malta. At 5:30 PM at Plac Wolności, you can experience “SPEEED” – a performance inspired by the Para Para dance phenomenon and the aesthetics of Eurobeat, which were all the rage in Tokyo in the 1990s. Colorful costumes and hyper-dynamic arm movements combine into choreography reminiscent of anime.

As part of the “Women’s Voices” series, Michał Nogaś and the audience at the Festival Club will meet at 6:00 PM with Gwendoline Riley – one of the most highly regarded authors in the UK and Ireland, known for her strikingly precise and minimalist portrayals of intimate relationships – often difficult, painful, and tense. The meeting offers a rare chance to immerse oneself in the raw and genuine world of her literary sensibility. The author will discuss, among other topics, her book “My Phantoms”, which was published in Poland this year and received enthusiastic praise in The Guardian and The New York Times.

The theatre program brings another round of performances. At the Polish Theatre in Poznań, “Querelle” by Piotr Pacześniak returns – a story of love, guilt, and identity inspired by the prose of Jean Genet. At Scena Robocza, “There Is Only One” will be presented – a poignant and bitter study of a mother-daughter relationship, written by Daria Sobik and directed by Pamela Leończyk. Both performances begin at 7:00 PM.

At 9:00 PM in Hall 6 of the Poznań International Fair, BADBADNOTGOOD will take the stage – the Canadian jazz quartet that has been pushing the boundaries between genres for years, blending hip-hop rhythms, bossa nova, and nu-jazz. This is one of the most anticipated concerts of this year’s Malta and marks the final note of this edition’s concert stage. The evening will open at 7:30 PM with a performance by hoshii – a band led by Polityka Passport-winning saxophonist Kuba Więcek.

At 8:30 PM on the Old Market Square, another unique music-choreography event will take place – “HIT OUT” – a performance in which the artists from Parini Secondo use nothing but the act of jumping rope to create a true symphony of percussive sounds.

As part of the “Women’s Cinema” series, we’ll see Katarzyna Klimkiewicz’s film “Autumn Girl” – a story about the turbulent life of Kalina Jędrusik, one of the most colorful figures of 1960s Polish pop culture. After the screening, which begins at 9:00 PM at the Quadro Passage on the Old Market Square, there will be a conversation with director Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, actress Maria Dębska, and psychologist and sexologist from the SWPS University Clinic, Katarzyna Kierzek.

On Wednesday, the street orchestra La Confiserie will once again parade through the city, and in the evening, the Local Girls Stage artists will return to perform at the Festival Club.

See you Wednesday at Malta! For Love!
