DAY TWO: DANCES IN THE WIND, SHEEPS ON THE MEADOW, AND GRAND PREMIERES!
The excitement from Malta’s opening hasn’t yet settled, and it’s already time to gear up for more attractions! The festival’s first Saturday will be filled with theatrical premieres, various interpretations of movement, and the launch of the concert program.
Sleep isn’t the only valuable form of regeneration. At 10:00 AM on the terrace of Arkadia – our Festival Club – a morning yoga session led by Twin Studio will begin. It’s open to everyone, regardless of experience level. In the same space, you can also visit the “Periods without Taboo” exhibition every day – a thought-provoking collection of data about the taboo of menstruation, gathered by the Kulczyk Foundation. The important message is accompanied by photographs by Magda Wunsche and Aga Samsel.
At noon in the Old Market Square, you’ll witness the spectacular “RoZéO” – a colorful, outdoor performance by the French company Cie Gratte Ciel. The actors will soar above the audience, swaying with the breeze and live music to remind us of our bond with nature. A second performance will take place at exactly 8:00 PM.
At 1:00 PM in the Festival Club, it’s time for the screen printing workshop – just bring a cotton T-shirt or tote bag and give it a new life with festival graphics and eco-friendly paints.
At 6:00 PM in Hall No. 2 at the Poznań International Fair (MTP), the second showing of the performance “Embodying Pasolini” will take place. The star duo of Tilda Swinton and Olivier Saillard will once again pay tribute to the legendary Italian director using costumes and props from his films. This performance is staged only once a year, in a different part of the world. In 2025, it’s happening right here in Poznań.
At the same time, in the cinema hall of CK Zamek’s Pałacowe Cinema, “Arabian Nights” by Pier Paolo Pasolini will be screened – the penultimate film in Malta’s retrospective of the Italian visionary’s work.
At 6:00 PM, Aula Artis will host the first Maltese performance of “The Rite of Spring” – a sensual audiovisual reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s ballet by the Italian group Dewey Dell.
An hour later, at 7:00 PM at the Polish Theatre, you’ll have another chance to experience “Chopin’s Death” – a performance recreating the composer’s final moments and inviting reflection on the price of genius.
In Hall No. 6 at the Poznań International Fair, this year’s edition concert programme will begin. At 7:30 PM, the evening will start with Tomasz Makowiecki – an artist who has found his own creative path, writing noble and uniquely melancholic pop songs. Then, at exactly 9:00 PM, The Teskey Brothers will take the stage. For over a decade, this Australian band has been blending classic, soulful depth with the folk traditions of the American Deep South. Known for their moving, emotionally rich live shows, their Malta Festival performance will mark their first-ever visit to Poland.
At 8:00 PM, the Local Girls Stage at the Festival Club on Plac Wolności will open for the first time. From Saturday to Friday, every evening will showcase DJs from the Local Girls Movement – a collective of women and femme-identifying individuals who create a platform for shared education and exchange of experiences.
Meanwhile, at 9:00 PM in the Quadro Passage on the Old Market Square, the second screening in the “Women’s Cinema” series will begin. In a space arranged by Malta Festival’s partner, interior design company VOX, you’ll be able to watch “It’s Not My Film” by Maria Zbąska – a story about reclaiming one’s narrative and resisting external expectations. After the screening, there will be a discussion with special guests: director Maria Zbąska, cinematographer Krzysztof Wiśniewski, and Dr. Aleksandra Plata – psychologist and sexologist from the SWPS University Clinic.
Also at 9:30 PM, on the meadow by Lake Malta, the festival premiere of “ULTRAFICCIÓN No. 1 / Shards of Time” will take place – a performance by the Spanish collective El Conde de Torrefiel. The artists will explore the human condition, transience, and life on the edge, supported by the surrounding nature… and a flock of sheep plus a shepherd dog. Just don’t count the sheep – you wouldn’t want to fall asleep and miss the most beautiful moments of the show!
Throughout the day, it’s worth chasing down La Dinamo – a Catalan, bicycle-powered orchestra playing energetic funk. Follow the rhythm and listen carefully, as the band will be moving throughout the city.
Malta is on! To Love!
