JOIN MAGDALENA CIELECKA ON STAGE. OPEN CALL FOR THE SECOND WOMAN

10/04/2026
A scene from “The Second Woman” performance set in a red and pink neon-lit interior; At the centre, a woman in a red dress stands with her back to the viewer, while a man sits beside her on a chair; In the foreground, cameras are recording the scene, and a neon sign reading “The Second Woman” glows above

This is not a conventional performance. The Second Woman – a highlight of this year’s Malta Festival – is created live, and each participant actively shapes its course. It is a stage experience that will never unfold the same way twice. And you can be part of it.

An open call is now underway for 100 participants who will join Magdalena Cielecka on stage in The Second Woman – one of the most acclaimed contemporary theatre projects of recent years, previously presented in cities including London, New York, and Vienna. The Polish edition will take place on 26–27 June at the Earth Hall at Poznań International Fair.

The Second Woman unfolds in real time over 24 hours. Magdalena Cielecka repeats the same scene one hundred times, each time with a different partner. Each encounter lasts approximately ten minutes. There are no rehearsals or prior arrangements – only a short script and whatever unfolds between two people, here and now.

At the pivotal moment of each scene, the partner makes a decision: they say either “I have always loved you” or “I have never loved you.” With each iteration, meaning shifts, and the performance becomes a live process shaped by the reactions, emotions, and decisions of its participants.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for men and queer participants of different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. No acting experience is required –  what matters is a willingness to step into a short scene and an openness to working in direct interaction with the actress.
