MALTA FESTIVAL 2024 IS OVER. IT WAS A MARATHON OF LOVE!
Behind us are 9 days full of unity, love, and art that changes the world. For over a week, Poznań was a place where a new, better, and friendlier world was designed through participation in moving, thought-provoking performances, conversations with inspiring people fighting for rights and ideals, and connecting with art that unites. Nearly 30,000 people participated in Malta’s events. Dominika Kulczyk also announced the date for the jubilee 35th edition of the Malta Festival.
‘Thank you to everyone who took advantage of Malta’s rich program, because you have shown that Poznań needed Malta, and Malta needed Poznań. Together, we created something wonderful. I want to wholeheartedly thank the hundreds of people involved in preparing the Malta Festival: the volunteers, the production team, and everyone who dedicated their time and energy to make Poznań the capital of culture. I deeply believe that spreading awareness of our unity, strength, and love, which was the main goal of this year’s Malta, will bring results, especially in these difficult times like today when we should be united with love for our sisters and brothers affected by the devastating effects of the flood,’ says Dominika Kulczyk, patron of the Malta Festival.
Several thousand people by Lake Malta listened to Parov Stelar, L.U.C and the Rebel Babel Film Orchestra featuring Kayah and Kwiat Jabłoni, Hollow Coves, and a solo DJ set by Sienkiewicz. Crowds joined the brass bands wandering through the city, danced under the mechanical goats with children from Project Elimu, and explored Poznań with Little Amal. Tim Robbins took a picture with over a hundred participants after hit, sold-out performances of ‘Topsy Turvy’. Despite unfavorable weather, over a thousand people listened to the phenomenal Anohni at the Old Brewery Park. Andrzej Seweryn received 8 minutes of standing ovation for his masterful performance as Shakespeare’s ‘Lear’. A similar ovation filled the Earth Hall, where nearly 1,500 people watched ‘Elizabeth Costello’ by Krzysztof Warlikowski and Nowy Teatr. Six sold-out performances of the award-winning ‘Sun & Sea’. Full houses for ‘Lover’s Complaint’ and ‘Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Inventione’. The Atrium at UAP was bursting at the seams when Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk visited. Magical moments were shared by nearly 30,000 people in total!
‘Let’s not forget that behind these numbers lies countless passion, joy, and love. What makes me happiest are the thousands of testimonies from participants that this year’s Malta gave them a lot of love and received it back. And for those eagerly waiting for the next edition of the Malta Festival, I have good news. We’ll see you in June 2025!’ announces Dominika Kulczyk.
