OPEN MALTA FESTIVAL 2025 WITH US!
She walked a highline over the Vltava River, conquered Sacré-Cœur and Stade de France, and in her practice, she constantly seeks balance. Now, Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga and her team, Basinga, will walk above Plac Wolności and — together with the people of Poznań — open the 35th edition of Malta Festival on June 20 at 3:00 PM.
Join us and co-create this unforgettable event!
Each Basinga performance is a tribute to nature — rooted in the ground, carried by the air, and held together by community. Their goal is to transform highlining from an individual discipline into a collective act. Every project involves the audience and local communities — and it will be no different in Poznań!
The opening performance of the 35th Malta Festival will be “Open Lines“ by the French company Basinga, devoted to the art of highlining. The group, co-founded and led by Tatiana Mosio-Bongonga, works under a striking motto: We are nothing but constant management of imbalance. And they add: It’s imbalance that brings us closer. It supports us. It makes us fall, or bounce back. To stay upright, to carry on, to move forward — we build ties, bridges, we reach for walls, branches, for one another. That’s what gives us confidence. Through its work, Basinga shows that our strength lies in our weaknesses — and in our ability to connect them. What bonds us makes us powerful.
In line with this philosophy, we are looking for people to co-create this extraordinary performance — by helping to physically and symbolically support the line.
Your presence, attention, and body weight will stabilize the wire, enabling the artist to walk 200 meters across the sky, 15 meters above Plac Wolności.
It’s a physical role (but it doesn’t require strength) — and a deeply meaningful one.
CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
At the heart of Basinga’s work is collaboration with local people who literally support the highline performance. These volunteers are called cavaletti, after the lines that connect the main wire to the ground and limit its side movement.
Cavaletti are essential — without them, the performance cannot take place. The tension of the line, and thus the artist’s sense of safety, depends on the people who anchor it with their presence.
By inviting volunteers to take part, Basinga not only honors nature, air, and the earth — they raise the question of the importance of every person involved. It’s not the lone highliner who carries the show — but the community that builds the experience.
