On Friday evening, June 27, music will become the language of community as St. Mark’s Square at the Poznań International Fair transforms into the central stage for Europe’s artistic celebration. At 8:00 PM, “A Song for the Four Corners of the World” will begin – the largest of the concerts marking the finale of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and one of the culminating events of Malta Festival, which runs through June 28.
Here in Poznań, four stories will be told – stories of what matters most today: solidarity, the balance between humanity and nature, the digital world, and the realm of spirituality, poetry, and memory. Four stages, four narratives, dozens of artists – from legendary voices to contemporary icons. Among the performers: Julia Pietrucha, Justyna Steczkowska, Krystyna Prońko, Maria Peszek, Natalia Przybysz, Mela Koteluk, Natalia Kukulska, Anna Maria Jopek, Kamil Bednarek, Janusz Radek, and Katarzyna Groniec. The evening will be hosted by Gabi Drzewiecka and Robert Stockinger, with a live national broadcast on Polish Television, bringing this celebration from Poznań into thousands of homes across the country.
This unique concert is part of the nationwide European Music Celebration – a multi-city event taking place simultaneously in Rzeszów, Kraków, Gdańsk, and Bydgoszcz. Five cities, eight stages, and hundreds of performers will create a shared, geographically dispersed but thematically united story of a modern, diverse, and connected Europe. Coordinated by the National Centre for Culture, the program stands as a symbolic culmination of Poland’s six-month presidency – open, polyphonic, and deeply rooted in local identities.
Before the first note of the evening concert is played, we invite you to an event of special significance: at 5:00 PM in Aula Artis, the world premiere of the opera “The Monster’s Voice” will take place. Co-produced by Malta Festival and the Kulczyk Foundation, this remarkable work by Alek Nowak, Robert Bolesto, and Agnieszka Smoczyńska is inspired by the novel by Sally Perel and the film “Europa Europa” by Agnieszka Holland. It explores identity, memory, and the monsters we carry within and project onto others. This contemporary opera, rooted in myth and politics, is a moving commentary on the world we live in today.
Let this ending also mark a symbolic beginning.
Let us come together to celebrate Europe – through sound, image, gesture, and thought.
