Additional information

The detailed schedule will be announced closer to the event.

Praised by critics and adored by audiences, Mercury Prize-winning Benjamin Clementine is an artist who defies categorization. His work blends elements of baroque pop, classical music, soul, and experimental sound. This eclectic approach makes it impossible to confine him to a single genre – he draws on a wide spectrum of styles and inspirations, creating music that is both deeply personal and instantly recognizable. His art is profoundly lyrical, with texts shaped by philosophical reflections and surreal imagery. Clementine is a poet – the author of his own pieces – which adds yet another layer of depth to his music. In his work, he explores personal and existential themes, as well as questions of identity, love, and loss. His baritone voice is powerful and affecting, yet soothing and sincere. It is precisely this unique fusion of form and content that makes Clementine one of the most intriguing voices in contemporary music.

Clementine’s concerts are often likened to the emotionally charged performances of Nina Simone, though he has long been crafting his own unmistakable stage language. He creates an intimate atmosphere of closeness with the audience, weaving in theatrical elements and balancing on the edge between concert and performance art. While singing, Clementine shifts rhythm, tempo, and key, often interlacing his compositions with expressive silence. Experiencing Clementine live is a moving encounter that lingers with anyone who has had the chance to witness his performance even once. He last performed in Poznań in 2017, and Polish audiences still remember his appearance at  the Fryderyk Awards Gala, where he performed London.

Clementine was born in Edmonton, in the northern suburbs of London, into a strict Christian household of Ghanaian immigrants. He forged his own path through personal experience –  as a teenager, he found himself on the streets of Paris, playing in the metro and performing covers of James Brown and, fittingly, Nina Simone. It was there that he was discovered and began his professional career. His breakthrough album At Least for Now (2015) gained significant popularity, earned him critical acclaim, and opened the door to the world’s most prestigious stages. Audiences around the world are currently awaiting the premiere of his upcoming album Sir Introvert and the Featherweights. We expect to hear tracks from the new record at the concert in Poznań.

The Malta Festival concert programme will run for four days, with three concerts on stage each day.
