Efterklang will perform on June 27 at Malta Festival. The Danish collective has spent over two decades developing its music through collaboration and a continuous search for new directions.
Over the years, the band has continuously evolved its sound, drawing on elements of pop, indie rock, post-rock, and electronic music. At the heart of their work is a focus on connection — between sound, space, and community. They combine electronics, acoustic instruments, and layered vocals into compositions that unfold gradually, with a strong sense of attention and care.
It is in their live performances that this approach becomes most apparent. Efterklang builds a clear connection with the audience, allowing their music to develop in a way that is both dynamic and engaging.
Efterklang is a Danish band founded in 2000 by Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, and Rasmus Stolberg. From the outset, the group has operated as an open project – with a defined core, but continuously expanded through collaborations and new contexts.
Across successive albums, the band has consistently redefined its sound, drawing on elements of pop, electronic music, indie rock, and post-rock. In recent years – particularly since Altid Sammen – their musical language has become more direct and restrained, focusing on relationships: between people, nature, and community. Their latest album, Things We Have In Common, continues in this direction, centring on ideas of belonging and shared experience.
A defining feature of Efterklang is their way of working – based on dialogue and co-creation. Rune Mølgaard, a key contributor to the band’s early work, returned as a composer and co-writer on part of the new material. The band also collaborates with musicians from diverse backgrounds, shaping the open and layered character of their compositions.
Efterklang’s concerts take the form of dynamic, evolving structures – combining new material with pieces from their earlier catalogue, while leaving space for improvisation and transformation. Performing in an expanded line-up, the band builds its live shows around a strong connection with the audience and a shared listening experience.
The Malta Festival concert programme will run for four days, with three concerts on stage each day.
