Épiphytes is an outdoor performance inspired by nature and the world of plants, created for four dancer-acrobats performing on a towering metal structure. The Belgian piece brings together the animate and the inanimate, revealing the organic nature of circus apparatus designed as giant tree-like sculptures that support one another as they climb and grow together. The performance also becomes a powerful expression of sisterhood – built on attentiveness, trust and mutual support.
The performance invites us into a forest – living and imagined, timeless, mysterious and multidimensional: a place of encounters and multisensory communication, a space of entertainment and fear, a playground and an expression of freedom. At its core lie transformation and the crossing of boundaries. Are we standing in a real forest, or in its inner, spiritual reflection?
Épiphytes is a true orchestra of bodies – a vibrant and deeply moving choreographic performance. The artists’ movement research draws inspiration from epiphytes: plants that do not grow from the ground, but climb on other plants or structures without depleting the resources of their “hosts.” For the performers, this becomes an invitation to inhabit the structure, cover it with movement and bring it to life.
Working from the belief that understanding the world requires more than reason alone – that it also depends on emotional and sensory perception – the artists invite the audience into this shared experience.
