MARO will perform on 25 June at Malta Festival. A Portuguese multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer, she represents a new generation of artists working across the global scene, building an international audience and collaborating with musicians worldwide.
Her music is minimal in form but emotionally precise. Blending elements of pop, folk, and alternative, she creates intimate compositions that unfold with focus and linger long after the final note.
MARO is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer from Lisbon, Portugal. After graduating from Berklee College of Music (Boston), she debuted her career in 2018, releasing five albums and an EP. She later joined Jacob Collier on his DJESSE World Tour as part of the band. In those years, MARO opened for artists including Jessie J, Gipsy Kings, Charlotte Cardin and The Paper Kites.
In 2020, she created ITSAME, MARO! – a 100-episode collaboration series with artists from around the world, including Eric Clapton, Pablo Alborán, Lizzy McAlpine, Ivan Lins, Vitor Kley, ANAVITÓRIA, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Maria Gadú, Mayra Andrade, Rui Veloso, and Lennon Stella.
MARO won the Festival da Canção and represented Portugal at Eurovision in 2022, with saudade, saudade finishing in the top 10. She later released can you see me?, an album blending influences from pop, trap, world, and folk music.
In April 2023, MARO released hortelã, an acoustic trio album with Catalan guitarists Darío Barroso and Pau Figueres. Mostly sung in Portuguese, the album won the José Afonso Award for Portuguese Album of the Year.
Following their collaboration on the EP PIRILAMPO, MARO and NASAYA released LIFELINE in 2024, introducing a more electronic sound that marked a shift from her prior album.
MARO has been touring for the past 3 years, performing to sold-out venues globally with both her acoustic trio and electronic duo. MARO has shared major stages with Jacob Collier, Odesza, and Parcels, and opened arenas for Shawn Mendes’ summer tour.
Announcing her new album SO MUCH HAS CHANGED – a celebration of brighter, upbeat sound – MARO embarks on a fresh chapter, debuting a full-band show to the audiences worldwide in 2026.
The Malta Festival concert programme will run for four days, with three concerts on stage each day.
