What happened long ago in Glutendorf, the former name of Poznań’s Główna district? Step aboard a time machine in the form of a red Jelcz bus, which will take you on a journey through the unknown and forgotten history of the neighbourhood.

Long Ago in Glutendorf tells the story of local heritage and recreates the idea of the people’s theatre that operated in Główna in the early 20th century. The theatre was created by and for local residents. They took part in preparing performances and decided on their content and form. More than one hundred years later, this gesture of collective, voluntary theatre-making is repeated. The script for “Long Ago in Glutendorf” was developed together with participants of a screenwriting workshop, and the cast includes people who took part in an open call, including residents of Główna.

The action takes place aboard a Jelcz bus. The bus, transformed into a time machine, takes audiences on a journey through the district’s history, populated by ghosts of the past and symbols of contemporary times: workers commuting to their shifts, local animator DJ Nowak, a supporter of Polonia Poznań, Neptune from Główienka, or an investor specialising in the “revitalisation” of tenement houses. The production draws on archival materials and interviews conducted with residents of Główna.

The building that once housed the theatre hall no longer exists. Years of neglect by a private owner led to the decision to demolish it. But does that mean the story of the theatre has come to an end?
