Women’s Cinema is a series of film screenings and conversations where cinema becomes a starting point for exploring relationships, emotions and the experiences that shape contemporary life.
La petite mort is a personal experiment that blends film, theatre and documentary. Inspired by the figure of Ophelia, it is a story about friendship, memory and growing up, drawing on childhood archives and the experiences of girls coming of age in a small Polish town in the early 2000s.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with directors and actors Martyna Byczkowska and Kaja Zalewska, and actor Dominik Rubaj.
This is our personal experiment, blending film, theatre, and documentary. It follows Ophelia, who, during a surreal courtroom trial, splits into two selves. Moving through a dreamlike journey across different stages of life, both versions try to understand the choices she has made. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Ophelia, the film also becomes a story about our friendship. Through intimate childhood archives, we portray girls growing up in a small town in Poland in the 2000s.
