(…) It is definitely a genuine film. This is definitely a film without commentary. It is certainly also a film that is not the whole truth about me. I think it will surprise viewers, both those who know me and those who don't know me.

Andrzej Seweryn

Documentary portrait of Andrzej Seweryn. However, this is not a biographical film. The camera follows the hero, observing his life over the course of one year. Thanks to this, we get a multi-dimensional portrait of an outstanding actor who, despite his age, is still working at top speed. He acts, directs and runs a theater. In pursuit of his passion, he continues to take on new professional challenges with youthful verve. On the screen we see an artist in constant creative flux, but we also see an ordinary person. Someone who can be tired, frustrated and even short-tempered, but also affectionate, sensitive and attentive to others. Thanks to this, we can identify with him and try to understand his emotions. The longer the film’s viewers observe the hero, the more clearly they ask themselves the question – what is the true price of greatness? How much must be sacrificed for it? Are we witnesses of a chase or an escape? What role does the fear of stopping, of the end of existence, play here? Is the desire for perfection and the desire to give meaning to each day and each hour also an attempt to answer the question – what will I leave behind?

That’s weird. Thanks to this movie I learn new things. Even though I am an actor, an adult and I try to control myself and be aware of what I do or say, especially in public situations, it turns out that it is not that simple. Thanks to this film, I discover myself in various situations and sometimes it is surprising, sometimes heartwarming and sometimes irritating. But it’s definitely true. And that’s probably important.

Andrzej Seweryn is not here. It’s impossible to be everywhere, to give your all, for years and decades. Theater, cinema, management, family, trips, interviews. And yet in Arkadiusz Bartosiak’s film, Andrzej Seweryn has his own face, wrinkles, views and position.
This documentary breaks away from the convention of showing characters from the cultural canon. Praising, talking heads: Andrzej Seweryn doesn’t need it. Either honestly or not at all. In the film he is magnanimous and irritated, very tired and agitated. Rugged, likeable.
I love Seweryn. I loved him even more after this movie.

Michał Rusinek, text message:

Kasia, we couldn’t stay for the conversation, but the film is beautiful, wise, touching, funny at times. And above all – real (despite the fictional character). What I remember most are the conversations with the physiotherapist and Marysia Peszek’s words: we produce light. Andrzej’s light is beautiful. And your film is beautiful. Hugs and congratulations!

Letter from Grażyna Torbicka:

Kasia,
The film is very good, original, well edited, photographed, and fast paced. But above all, the HERO is extraordinary – a cosmic figure!
We managed to avoid the simple narrative typical of biographical films in favor of a very risky mosaic of images, scenes and events edited in such a way that we get a portrait of a unique artist,
a man of great sensitivity, tenderness, responsibility, with a sense of humor, a real person.
I am impressed, congratulations and thank you.
I thought I knew what Andrzej Seweryn was like, but, yes –  I thought…
Many scenes, sentences, looks remain and reflections multiply.
It’s great that you made this film.
Kind regards
Grażyna

Małgorzata Domagalik, text message:

I have just finished watching it. This is great!!! Andrzej crushes all the imperfections of the world and humanizes the Master in a way known only to him.
His versatility is astonishing and he himself demolishes the definition of youth. I am impressed and I congratulate you very much.
When the last line is said, I would like it to be an interlude…

Krzysztof Gierat:

It’s great, energetic cinema, the camera is very close to the hero, in various circumstances, showing what an extraordinary actor and versatile person Seweryn is.
Here we have a man in his prime, full of passion and very self-aware. Many hours of material were combined into a fascinating 75 minutes with the Master, who is a flesh-and-blood character.

The Director of the Krakow Film Festival justifies the choice of the film as the opening film of the 64th edition of KFF

On September 8, after the film screening, there will be a discussion with Andrzej Seweryn, hosted by Michał Merczyński.
