The Oscar^® winner is coming to Poznań with a one-of-a-kind artistic tribute, staged only once a year, to the films of the celebrated Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini. “Embodying Pasolini” will be presented exclusively at the festival from June 20–23 this year.

The countdown to the 35^th jubilee edition of Malta Festival starts now!

And we’re kicking things off in style – with a visit from Scottish actress Tilda Swinton! This June, she’ll be bringing “Embodying Pasolini” to Poznań, a unique performance created in collaboration with her long-time stage partner, art historian and fashion curator Olivier Saillard. This time, the inspiration came from their shared fascination with the magic of cinema and film costumes.

Tilda Swinton is one of the most recognizable actresses in the world. A muse to Derek Jarman, Jim Jarmusch, and more recently, Pedro Almodóvar, you might know her not only from thought-provoking independent films (“Orlando”, “Suspiria”) but also from Hollywood blockbusters, such as “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” or two Marvel Cinematic Universe smash hits: “Doctor Strange” and “Avengers: Endgame”. Swinton’s role in “Michael Clayton” earned her an Oscar® and a BAFTA Award. In recent years, she has received lifetime achievement awards from the prestigious Venice and Berlin film festivals.

In “Embodying Pasolini”, Swinton takes to the stage to try on costumes and handle props from Pasolini’s films, including “The Gospel According to St. Matthew”, “Oedipus Rex” and “Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom”. The Italian director’s strikingly visual narratives continue to fascinate some and outrage others to this day – Pasolini himself was taken to court over them more than thirty times. Swinton will be joined on stage by Olivier Saillard, the production’s creator.

I am excited about the opportunity to present “Embodying Pasolini” to the festival audience and curious to see how they will respond to this artistic project,  says Dominika Kulczyk, patron of Malta Festival.

This is a unique, interdisciplinary experience that requires extensive preparation. That is why the creators present it only once a year under carefully selected conditions. I am proud and delighted that in 2025, it will be our very own Malta in Poznań, she adds.

You will be able to experience this visual feast with Tilda Swinton on four occasions – June 20–23 (Friday–Monday) at the Poznań International Fair (Hall 2), with performances starting at 6:00 PM each day. Tickets go on sale at the end of March.

Also in late March, we’ll reveal more concerts, performances, and open-air events that will make this year’s edition truly spectacular. The full program will be published gradually on the official festival website (malta-festival.pl) and on our social media channels.
