One of the most important artists of the alternative scene of the 21st century will come to Poznań with the group The Johnsons to perform her songs from her latest, well-received album. In Old Brewery Park we will also hear the songs such as “Hope There’s Someone”, “You are My Sister” and “4 Degrees”.

Born in the English county of West Sussex and having lived in New York for decades, the singer and pianist released her first album with the group The Johnsons in 2000. But her streak of success began with the 2005 release of the longplay I Am a Bird Now, earning her the prestigious Mercury Prize, After 2 well-received albums recorded with The Johnsons the artist returned with her solo album “HOPELESSNESS” based on experimental, futuristic sounds. This ode to nature, full of anxiety and concern for the planet, earned her a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Artist. ANOHNI was nominated for an Oscar for best original song for the song “Manta Ray” for the film “Racing Extinction”.

Last year, ANOHNI & The Johnsons released their first studio material in 13 years. “My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross”, which emanates with beauty expressed by the artist’s phenomenal vocals and a subtle, but extremely suggestive instrumental layer. This set of songs talks about love, pain and longing and identifies the violence inflicted on excluded people and the planet. Sonically, the artist turned to soul for the first time, drawing inspiration from “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye and using the production of Jimmy Hogarth, known for his collaboration with Amy Winehouse and Tina Turner. The album was recognized as the album of the year by The New Yorker and Gazeta Wyborcza and placed in the top ten rankings by Pitchfork, The Needle Drop and The New York Times.
