ABOUT THE WIE(dźma) SERIES
WIE(dźma) is a series of discussions organized by Kulczyk Foundation, Malta Festival, and Local Girls Movement. The initiative focuses on the figure of the Witch—a wise, independent woman who has often been stigmatized and persecuted. These meetings provide a space to explore language, culture, history, and pop culture, which have long shaped narratives about women who challenge social norms.
The series examines how perceptions of women as witches have evolved over time, the mechanisms of social control that fueled their persecution, and how modern culture and media redefine these figures. Discussions feature researchers, writers, and experts, offering insights into witch trials, linguistic oppression, feminist reinterpretations, and reclaiming narratives.
The WIE(dźma) series is not only a journey through history and mythology but also a reflection on how these narratives continue to shape contemporary reality and women’s identities today.
All events take place at Malta Festival Office, Ratajczaka 44, Poznań. Admission is free.
